A Year In Review

Forward

This blog was written in January 2022 and was a reflection of the first year in business. It was planned to be uploaded at the beginning of the 2022 but one thing led to another and it was never posted. Better late than never?

Mass: A Year in Review

Reflecting on this year, it feels like time has flown by. I quit my job of 19 years, the only job I've ever had, to dive into the challenging yet rewarding world of entrepreneurship. Picture me sitting in my kids' playroom, brainstorming ways to turn it into a professional office. Despite the inevitable ups and downs, we've come out on top.

Let's rewind to January 1, 2021—Mass Excavation and Demolition was just a single employee and a humble pickup truck. Now, 365 days later, we've grown into a thriving team: 13 employees, 2 hydraulic excavators, 1 backhoe, 1 skid steer, 2 tri-axle dump trucks, and 4 pickup trucks. Witnessing this rapid expansion has been truly awe-inspiring, emphasizing the incredible progress in such a brief span. We achieved our initial goals with flying colors, and as we wrap up this chapter, there's a host of exciting milestones awaiting us in the years ahead.

But let's be real, not every moment was sunshine and roses. Challenges arose, fires needed extinguishing. Looking back, scheduling intricacies and supply chain disruptions were the big hurdles. From committing to a project and turning down other work only for that project to face a two-month delay to dealing with COVID-19 impacts on material procurement and costs, each challenge demanded a unique and strategic solution.

As I reflect on this transformative year, I can’t help but thank the fantastic individuals at Mass Excavation and Demolition. They didn't just embrace their roles; they took a leap of faith in my entrepreneurial dream. Our success today is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and belief in the vision I laid out. Joining a brand new business requires trust and commitment, and I'm sincerely thankful for the resilience demonstrated by each team member.

As we close the chapter on this remarkable first year, our gratitude extends to everyone who played a part in making this year great from our employees, suppliers and clients, thank you.

Cheers to another great year!
